A Poem For My Son

May you know that you matter-

Not for what you do

Not for how the world sees you

But simply because you are mine

You matter in my heart

Beyond any words I can say

Beyond time, mistakes or distance

There is no version of this life

Where your existence isn’t a blessing

When the world feels too much

Or you forget who you are,

I will still always be here 

Steadily and quietly

Holding space for your becoming

You never have to carry it all alone

You never did

And even if I don’t always say it right

Please know this -

You are deeply loved
