Let Me Dance

Let me dance

Without asking if I’m doing it right

Without tightening my belly

Without the need to be graceful

Let me be wild and awkward and free

Let me dance

Not to perform

But to feel

Let me dance

The way a fire burns

With no plan

No politeness

Let me dance

For the parts of me that don’t speak in words

Let my hips tell the truth

Before I have time to censor it

Let me dance

In my tracks sacks

With the music too loud

And no one watching

Let me shake the stories out

Let me remember

That this body was made

For more than just holding it all together

Let me dance

In the kitchen with bare feet

In the mess of my lounge room

In the middle of the day

Let me find rhythm

When everything else feels off beat

Let me dance

As medicine

To meet life

To drop in

And come home to myself

Let me dance

With no shoes

No shame

No story

Just song and soul

In this moment

In this body
