Fragrance

Fragrance arrives in the ordinary

It has its own language

Finding its way through the senses

A signature of each moment

The kitchen after baking

Sweet and warm and lovely

In the scent of your child’s freshly washed hair

Still damp

And tangled with sleep and lavender

In the warmth of someone you love

Pulling you close

In the garden after the rain

The smell of a newborn baby

The soft bloom of spring in the air

The sweet knowing of jasmine and frangipanis

Drifting through half opened windows

The smell of your dog

Her sun-warmed fur

Freshly mown grass

Sheets blowing gently in the wind

Fragrance

The body’s way of remembering without words

Soft and sensory

A gentle anchor to the now
