What An Interesting Old Lady

May I know, at the end of my days,

That each of my choices have mattered -

That I have done work that has mattered -

That the experiences of my life

Have been mixed together into one big earthen bowl

Rich with kindness

And served with a generous heart

Along the road of my life,

May I know that I made a claim on my life -

Not timidly, but with purpose,

Like a big ta-da!

May I know that I dared to live deeply

To fail beautifully,

And to keep going

May my days on earth

Leave behind a story worth telling

May the benediction of my bones

Rest in the soil -

A final act of kindness to the earth.
